BRIEF HISTORY:

National:
First court was organized by the Knights of Columbus in 1903 in Utica, New York as the Daughters of Isabella. In 1921, the name was changed to Catholic Daughters of America. In 1978 that name was changed to Catholic Daughters of the Americas, including the United States, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Louisiana:
CDA came to Louisiana in 1907 in Baton Rouge. In 1925 the State Court of Louisiana was formed.

Hammond:
In 1972 Court St. Albert the Great No. 2050 was instituted in Holy Ghost Parish, Hammond, with 37 charter members. The name of the court was chosen in honor of the Dominican priests, brothers, and sisters who have served in Tangipahoa Parish.

Charter regent was the late Lucy DiMaggio, who initiated the move to organize the Court. She was assisted by the late Fr. R. W. McNicholas, O. P., then pastor at Holy Ghost Church. Charter chaplain was the late Fr. J. E. O'Connell, O. P., then associate pastor.

Current Regent: Jacqueline Thiemann
Current Chaplain: Fr. Robert Perry, O. P.
